How fast should you reply to a new enquiry?

People often contact several trades at once and book whoever gets back first. Here’s how to be first without stopping work.

Why speed matters

When someone needs a plumber, a roofer or a cleaner, they rarely ask just one. They send the same message to a few businesses and go with whoever replies first, sounds helpful and seems reliable. Price matters, but by the time you send it, they may already have booked.

Reply in two steps

  1. Acknowledge straight away. A short “thanks, got your enquiry, here’s what happens next” reply. It stops them ringing the next number.
  2. Follow up properly when you’re free. Ask your questions, book a visit or send a price.

A ready-to-use acknowledgement
