How to ask customers for Google reviews

Reviews are often what decides who gets the call. Ask every customer, make it one tap, and never offer anything in return.

How to ask

  1. Ask when the job is done. The day you finish, while the result is in front of them.
  2. Send your review link. Your Google Business Profile gives you a short link that opens the review box directly. Put it in your text, email and invoice.
  3. Ask every customer. Not just the ones you think are happy.
  4. Remind once, then stop. One gentle follow-up is fine. More than that feels like pressure.
  5. Reply to every review. Thank people for good ones. Answer bad ones calmly and offer to put things right.

Stay within the rules

  • Don’t offer discounts, gifts or anything else in return for a review, or for changing a bad one.
  • Don’t ask only happy customers, and don’t discourage negative reviews.
  • Don’t tell people what to write or what rating to give.
  • Never write, buy or swap reviews. Google removes them, and fake reviews have been illegal in the UK since April 2025.

Google’s own rules are in its contributor policy.

The templates

Short on purpose. Swap in your own review link.
